Creeping privatization of B.C. prison system (April 2012)

When it’s finished, the Surrey Remand Centre will have more than 200 cells. The design and construction of the remand centre has been contracted out to a Canadian property management corporation. This company will also be responsible for maintenance. Aiyanas Ormond is an organizer with the Vancouver Network of Drug Users. VANDU is protesting what they see as the privatization of the prison system.

Report back on B.C.’s welfare food challenge (2012)

Raise the Rates in Vancouver challenged people in B.C. to try to eat for a week on $26.  This represents the amount of money a single able-bodied adult has left for food after they’ve paid for shelter, transit and a cell phone. Redeye’s Peter Driftmier took the challenge and he comes into the studio to talk about how it went. Peter Driftmier speaks with Redeye host Jane Williams.
